2005 Industry AwardsThe HBA has honored Gaylord Hanes, PhD, CGB, GMB, CAPS, of Homes by Hanes, was honored with the coveted Hugh Prather Award, the foremost distinction bestowed by the Home Builders Association of Greater Dallas. The Award is named after Hugh Prather, an early Park Cities resident and builder who called a group of home builders and mortgage lenders together on July 20, 1944 to form the Home Builders Association of Dallas. This prestigious award is given to the builder contributing the most to the betterment of the industry and the community.Dr. Hanes is the 2005 Hugh Prather recipient for many reasons. He is a long time member who continues to be active in the local, state and national associations. Dr. Hanes has served the Association as its President, and continues to serve in various roles, as his involvement in his community is broadly based. Previous recipients include such people as Dave Fox, W.W. Caruth, Jr., Fred Roach, Kent Conine, Kenny Marchant, Bobby Ray and Marvin Randle. "There is certainly no one more deserving of this award than Gaylord Hanes," said Bob Morris, Executive Vice President & CEO of HBA Dallas. "Gaylord has not only been a remarkable emissary for the home building industry, but he has also helped raise the standards of our industry, as well as see new ways to better integrate our work with community service." Gaylord Hanes is president of Homes By Hanes, which builds about 30 homes each year in the Ellis County area. Spanning 24 years in home building & development, He builds patio garden homes starting at $150,000 up to lake view homes on Lake Waxahachie priced up to $800,000. The company has received several awards for architectural design and craftsmanship. For the past 24 years Dr. Hanes has been a home builder and developer. He was the first president of the HBA's Ellis County Division.Dr. Hanes served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later earned undergraduate degrees from Oklahoma State University and his doctorate in soil physics from Louisiana State University. He has a varied professional background
Additionally, Dr. Hanes was listed in the "Who's Who in America" in 1972 and is a member of three national honorary societies: Alpha Zeta - Scholarship; Sigma Zi - Research; and Epsilon Sigma Pi - Education. He has served on the Board of Directors for both the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the Texas Association of Builders (TAB).Additional awards were given that evening:
The APEX Award (Associates Pursuit for Excellence) is an award that represents recognition on behalf of the Associate membership for excellence and professionalism in working with Associate members of the HBA, and is sponsored by the Associates Council.
"Shorty" Howard is one of the HBA's legendary figures, an associate member who lived for bringing in members. His ability to generate membership was so remarkable that the individual who is the leading recruiter for the year is honored as the "Shorty" Howard Award trophy recipient. Being the Association's top membership recruiter at the time of his untimely death, Howard set an example that, today, the HBA embraces as the embodiment of commitment. This is the award that recognizes excellence by a member who has been outstanding in bringing in new members and supporting the HBA's membership growth agenda.
The A.P. Roffino Memorial Award is given annually to recognize the achievements of an HBA Division/Council based on the accomplishments in the areas of overall involvement in HBA; civic and community programs; strengthening and improving the Division/Council; government relations; leadership; enthusiasm and creativity.
This year's recipient is a long time member - an industry veteran has been a tremendous supporter of the HBA through the years and has continually been a partner in division and council events, as well as an ardent supporter in the association's Education Program and Industry After Hours.
The HomeAid Dallas Industry Member Award recognizes an individual member of the HBA for the wonderful support and commitment to the mission of HomeAid that has been demonstrated throughout this past year. |
