What Is HOMEPAC?
HOMEPAC, the Home Builders Association’s political action committee, is an essential part of the HBA’s advocacy program. HOMEPAC provides contributions in support of pro-housing candidates for both statewide office and in local races. As state and local laws and regulations become an ever-increasing presence in your day-to-day business, HOMEPAC works to ensure that the voice of the home building and development industry is heard by lawmakers. The strength and ability of our industry to impact public policy decisions affecting your business depends solely on your participation and contributions.
How Does HOMEPAC Work?
HOMEPAC is governed by a Board of Trustees, who represents various aspects of the HBA. The trustees determine which political candidates will receive support based on the following criteria:
- The candidate’s voting record on issues important to the home building industry;
- The candidate’s membership on key facets of government that are important to home builders;
- The candidate’s leadership position and;
- The candidate’s understanding of the issues facing home builders and their readiness to assist in advocating or defeating pieces of legislation important to our industry.
Why Is HOMEPAC Important?
Without HOMEPAC’s participation, decisions affecting the future of the industry will be influenced by other industries and activist groups, many of whom represent interests directly opposed to our own. It is only through the voluntary contributions of our members that HOMEPAC can help preserve a positive political climate for the home building and development industry in the Dallas area.
What Are The Contribution Levels?
HOMEPAC has a variety of suggested levels of donation:
- Capitol Club-$2,500 annually
- Lone Star Club-$1,500 annually
- Austin Club-$1,000 annually
- President’s Club-$500 annually
- Senator’s Club-$250 annually
- Century Club-$100 annually
Can You Afford Not To Participate?
Changes in state law or local regulations could be detrimental to your business. Your contribution to HOMEPAC is an investment in the future of our industry and one of the most affordable options for political involvement. HOMEPAC represents your political interests at the state and local level, but is prohibited by law from donating to federal election campaigns. Additionally, HOMEPAC is forbidden by state law from accepting corporate donations and, therefore, may only accept personal or non-corporate checks or credit cards. There are no limits to what an individual may contribute to HOMEPAC.
When the 1,300 members of the HBA of Greater Dallas come together through HOMEPAC, the home building industry’s presence in the halls of government is stronger than ever. Please join the other building professionals in Texas by becoming a HOMEPAC donor today.
