Since its introduction nearly four years ago, Green Built Texas (GBT) has quickly become one of the nation’s most successful green building programs, winning National Green Building Program of the Year honors from NAHB in 2008. GBT strives to enhance the positive image of the industry, provide members and the public with valuable industry information and increase members’ ability to provide the region with quality housing. The program does this primarily through educational outreach and its dynamic web site (GreenBuiltTexas.com), which features the nation’s first searchable registry of green homes. In addition to its climate-specific single family construction protocol, GBT recently developed guidelines for multifamily construction and will soon begin work on one for remodeling along with higher levels of green building achievement. The program’s construction protocol has been adopted by several North Texas municipalities.
